How Does Sleep Deprivation Affect You?
Sleep deprivation affects millions of people every year. For a multitude of reasons, it becomes impossible to get a full night’s rest – if any at all – and many have resorted to a steady diet of coffee and caffeine pills. But there is also a more insidious assortment of consequences that may result from lack of sleep – things that should motivate you to search for answers and a solution quickly.
Poor Memory – without sleep, you simply will not be able to think clearly, process information or solve problems. Even one night’s bad rest is said to impair your judgment and ability to manage simple tasks.
Reduced Alertness and Performance – you will quickly see your job performance drop when you don’t get the sleep you need. Over time, you will also stop being able to enjoy your favorite social and recreational activities, and your inability to focus and engage can even affect your friendships and relationships.
Injury – impaired function can lead to physical injury either on the job, or while driving. Would you trust yourself behind the wheel of a car or operating machinery if you were unable to keep your eyes open? Hopefully not, or we would all be in trouble.
Health Problems – there is a laundry list of health issues attributed to lack of sleep including: high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, obesity, mood disorders and psychiatric disorders. Certainly unpleasant but most are life-threatening disabilities.
If you are feeling sleep deprived, don’t delay and get some sort of medical consultation. While there are some mental and physical conditions that may be at the root of the problem, the cause may simply be the quality of your mattress, general stress or your inability to manage your time effectively. Be sure to take care of it now, before it becomes a bigger problem later. There are a variety of affordable options in buying a new mattress.
